Happy Human Rights Day! Human Rights Day, celebrated annually on December 10th, is the celebration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This is a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights EVERYONE is entitled to, regardless of any characteristic status.

This international day of celebration and honour contributes to an important cause. Recognising that every human being should be treated with respect, equality, and dignity. Unfortunately, however, there are those who deliberately choose to violate individuals’ rights, exploiting them.

This is why it is our job, as allies and advocates, to do everything we can to make circumstances better for those who have experienced human rights violations. By putting genuine effort toward improving the issue, we will see progress, and continue to make real change

Here are 5 simple ways to get into this mentality of positive change and make a difference!

1. Educate, educate, educate!

Inform yourself on current news and events, especially those that involve human rights. Watch our Linkedin page where we post newspaper articles from around the world and recent articles on the subject. www.linkedin.com/company/the-freedom-hub

Expand your knowledge and go beyond what is being projected in the media. Perform your own research and have discussions with others to get different perspectives and opinions.

2. Involve others in your knowledge journey!

Share your new-found knowledge with friends and family! Let them know what you have learned and why you feel it is important for everyone to know.

Remember, the first step to dismantling the issue of modern slavery is to break down the stigmas behind discussing such difficult subjects.

3. Make small, positive changes in your lifestyle!

Shop smaller, local businesses that put their workers’ conditions and well-being first! By investing your money in these ethical businesses, we can help to reduce the economic prosperity and success of companies that exploit their workers.

4. Support human rights advocacy events and organisations!

Attend events hosted by organisations that dedicate themselves to bettering the lives of those in need of community support. The profits from these events often go toward individuals in need, aiding them in their physical, mental, or educational needs.

Here at the Freedom Hub, we have people, businesses and organisations who run regular events to raise awareness on modern slavery and fundraise for us. Wine tastings, High Teas, Fivers for Survivors Day events and markets. Find out more about our events here.

5. Volunteer!

Donate your time and skills toward activist missions you are passionate about! Many organisations offer various volunteer opportunities, and sometimes employment positions for those that are excited to contribute to their causes.

There are many ways to make a positive impact! Contact us at the Freedom Hub and ask for a volunteer pack and expression of interest form here.

If you think you have what it takes to be a Freedom Hub Ambassador in your local area or city, also contact us and ask for our Ambassador Information Pack.
