NSW Modern Slavery Act passed in Parliament

Paul Green with our founder Sally Irwin at the Freedom Hub

2018 will long be remembered in the history of the fight to end modern slavery and human trafficking in Australia! Introduced and supported by Hon. Paul Green MLC (guest at our VIP event), the NSW Modern Slavery Act passed in Parliament on 21 June 2018.

With this new legislation, all companies with an annual turnover of $50 million or more will have to train and put systems into place to ensure no modern slavery transpires in their supply chain.

The NSW Modern Slavery Act being passed will have huge repercussions on ALL companies in Australia, as big corporations have to make sure all their suppliers, no matter how big or small the company, conform with anti-slavery requirements.

Those failing to comply with the new legislation in 2019 could face penalty of up to $1.1 million.

The Freedom Hub has always carefully selected its suppliers and put systems into place to create ethical events and practices in our cafes. With help of our legal team, the Freedom Hub now offers a program providing training and support to companies, supporting them to create and  implement systems and processes in compliance with the act.
