What a better way to end a busy week than a Speakeasy Jazz bar ?! Turned into a New York club from prohibition times, our venue in Waterloo was the place to be last Friday night!

Jazz bar lovers definitely got their fix with the incredible performance of the Syd’ Side Trio, a Sydney based jazz band featuring Stefano Rocco on guitar, Renata Arrivolo on piano and Muhamed Mehmedbasic on double bass. Mixing famous jazz standards, some mellow blues and a groovy selection of latin songs, the trio’s repertoire was a total hit, inspiring some of us to get up and dance.

To spice it all up, some lucky few joined our exquisite whiskey tasting experience, learning to appreciate the subtle flavours of the golden beverage, as well as its history and how it is produced.

This first edition of the Speakeasy Jazz bar was an immense success, attracting a brand new crowd as well as some of our regulars. What a delight to see new faces coming along, and getting the opportunity to share about the work done at the Freedom Hub. Some are in shock, finding difficult to believe modern slavery happens in Australia. All are curious and willing to support the cause.

Due to its great popularity (tickets sold out in 10 days!), the Speakeasy Jazz bar is now going to be a regular event at the Freedom Hub, with its next edition on Friday 12 April 2019. Make sure you get your ticket!

As per all our events, 100% profits support our Survivor School, helping survivors of modern slavery in Australia to rebuild their life.
