It has been a very interesting time for the business world in Q2. Delta virus is causing lockdowns, trading stops in many cities and consumers are only buying online. Online buying can increase modern slavery as consumers unknowingly purchase goods with slavery.

On the bright side, many large businesses who have submitted their Modern Slavery Statements are now looking for ways to improve on their next statement and this has kept us busy!

In this update, you will read about our business advocacy, see links to business podcasts, and see the exciting launch of our Freedom Boxes, new online modern slavery training, the Freedom Fair coming up, and our next Fivers for Survivors Day.

Business Advocacy

During Q2 we had the opportunity to speak to many business communities and forums on slavery in supply chains. These gave us more exposure to help the business community, governments, and consumers to understand how to identify and prevent slavery in procurement. Here are a few pics from these events:

Ethical Business Opportunities Coming Up

Online Training Course

Our online Modern Slavery training launched during Q2. Part 1 is designed for anyone wanting to know more about modern slavery but also for the ethical business community to train their employees. There is a section of training that will help employees understand why their company has submitted a Modern Slavery Statement and what they can do to be conscious of being ethical in the workplace.

If you would like to find out more about enrolling in this Modern Slavery Course Part 1 click here.

We are still running Modern Slavery Workshops on Zoom for those wanting more interaction in submitting or improving their Modern Slavery Statement. And as second statements are starting to come around we have been asked to create more bespoke training for companies wanting their own needs met.

SAVE THE DATE:

Save the Date – Monday 18th October

It is on Again so Start Planning!

This is the day business partners join us in highlighting the issue of Modern Slavery as a result of poverty. Gather the workplace for a ‘Lunch & Learn’, after-work drinks, or online games. Everyone donates $5 to help the survivors in the Freedom Hub Survivor School and often the business matches the money raised.

We will have your DIY kit, press release and social media kits ready by the end of August. To be on the list for the kit, register your workplace interest here.

Freedom Fair pic

Freedom Fair 27th November 21

Now, this is exciting. We were ready to launch in August, but the Sydney lockdown has forced us to push this back and make it a Christmas market. The Freedom Fair will profile ethical businesses that are being transparent with their supply chains.

The biggest question we get asked is ‘how do you know where to shop for slave-free goods?” Well, for Sydney people, we are going to show you. Our business vendors are ready to go and now we will have time to find even more.

Find out more about the event plans so far here.
